Querschnitt EnergieteilIn the beginning of the 1980s increasing environmental requirements imposes by German environmental legislation forced our industrial shareholders to take actions with respect to their energy production. There were two alternatives: to revamp the old, small plants that each shareholder owned by himself or to join together and to build a new, bigger central plant.

For ecological and economical reasons a central plant had more advantages. Because the shareholders (a public-private-partnership of local industry and local authorities) were experienced in the combustion of domestic coal they decided to erect a coal combustion facility. In 1990 the combined heat and power plant was commissioned with a high efficient flue-gas cleaning system.
